Fiber Optic Humming Birds

fiber optic humming birdsThere’s something about LED and fiber optic lighting that’s just… fun. Now, I have no reason to purchase something like a fiber optic humming bird, but I saw the picture of these over at Collections, Etc. and was sorely tempted. It’s only $15 for a set of 15:

“Enjoy the sight of 15 hummingbirds all aglow with this 172″L fiber optic light strand. The wings light up in an array of iridescent fiber optic color. String them outdoors from a tree or porch rail, indoors for a unique & interesting lighting effect.”

Of course, the 5″ high birds are made of plastic, so I’m sure they wouldn’t stand up to that much adversity, but what do you expect for $15? It could make a fun gift for someone with an outdoor living area they use often. These would look cool at night, I bet.

Fiber Optic Room Divider

fiber optic fallI’m actually not sure if this “fiber optic fall” is a room divider, an update on those hippy door beads, or what (the picture I found on the web isn’t very good). Still, it looks interesting. Something fun for a college dorm room maybe. The site where I found it just calls it “a new type of optic fiber decoration.” Sounds good to me.

“Optic fiber strings is made up of ten rows plastic optic fiber or more, every string optic fiber is processed as a string of mini bulbs, but it can change colors and all body is glittering and translucent. The optic fibers are arranged side by side, formed a width curtain, shinning and colour changing…”

Here’s a link to the company site (for those of you who can read Chinese… though even if you can’t there are some neat pictures of fiber optic products): http://www.cnfortis.com/

Fiber Optic Step Lighting

fiber optic step lightingI had one of those “Oh, man, I totally want that” moments when I saw this fiber optic step lighting from Super Vision. The effect is produced with one of their products (SaVi Flood Strip) that’s recessed in the top of the riser. It produces some cool downlighting that would make it easy to navigate any steps in your backyard, whether heading up to an upper level deck or just out of a swimming pool area. There aren’t any prices listed on the manufacturer’s site, which probably means I can’t afford it. For those of you who have the resources to create an awesome backyard living area, have at it.
